| Here
is an example of some of the things customers wonder about, perhaps this page
will save you the phone call. Are
the features in the camper difficult to operate/understand? No, in fact
for the most part the van is designed to be very user friendly. Part of the rental
process is a walk through providing information on the features of the vehicle.
This will include information on how to operate the appliances and move fixtures
inside the vehicle. Included in the glove box is also a detailed description of
how to perform certain tasks, such as lighting the stove or adding water to the
tank. How
long will the propane last, and what do I do to refill it? Generally speaking
the propane tank will last for about two weeks of average use. If the tank does
run out, proceed to a propane dealer where it can be refilled, much like any fuel
tank. Who can
drive the Van? Drivers registered on the rental contract over the age
of 25 who are present at the time of rental departure with their valid driver's
license may drive the vehicle. The vans have standard transmissions and are easy
to drive. Is
there any way to have the camper stocked with grocery items so my trip can begin
faster? Yes, supplies can be bought in advance and packed in the camper
with prior request. Do
you allow travel to Canada? Yes we do, however you must be sure to tell
us in advance. The vehicle must carry a letter of authorization that may have
to be presented at the border crossing. Can
we leave our car there while we have the camper? We do not have facilities
for customer parking. Available space and insurance limitations make it impossible.
We offer pickup service from a number of locations (train stations, Burlington
Airport, Burlington Ferry, the bus station, etc.) to make it as convenient as
possible. We have had customers drive in to pick up their campers and then put
their cars in the parking garage or lot at the airport on in a downtown parking
garage, retrieving them on their way to return the camper. How
do I decide when I need "Unlimited Mileage"?
Each rental comes with 100 miles per day. Additional miles are charged
at a rate of $.50/mile. If you drove an additional 560 miles it
would add $280 in mileage charges. The "Unlimited Mileage"
option is $100/week. For 7 days that would be $100. So, if you drove
more than 560 extra miles, it would save money to take the "Unlimited
Mileage", less than 560, it would be less expensive to take
the mileage charge. But you have to decide before you leave.
How
many people does a Westfalia hold? Most units are standard with 4 seat
belts. Each camper has 2 double beds (1 up, 1 down). Do
you allow 1-way trips? We do not have any other pickup or drop off locations,
at this time. Will
my camper have a furnace for heat?
No, but we can rent you an electric heater. 110V hookup is required.
How
fast is a Westy and how much distance can I cover per day? We recommend
that you don't exceed 70 mph for any length of time. They are about as aerodynamic
as a barn door and anything above 65 burns a disproportional amount of gas and
starts to work the engine much harder for very little gain. For driving days of
8 hours or more, considering food stops, rest stops, gas stops, average traffic
and hopefully stopping to look at something interesting, an average speed of 50
mph is normal.. |
